Tree Memorial

This sculpture is a memorial to Rachel’s most beloved tree throughout childhood. The tree came down in an ice storm when she was in middle school, but it lives on in her heart. The texture of this ceramic piece was made by pressing the tree’s bark into the clay. It was fired to cone 14 which makes it nearly waterproof. It now serves as a planter. The symbology: the tree may be gone, but things it has touched help new life live on.
