“I moved into our Davis cottage at the beginning of California’s long drought. Inhabited exclusively by turf grass, I quickly realized a problem with the new front yard landscape. Did we need the grass? No. I saw a blank canvas and said, “let’s paint!” Working with the California Center for Urban Horticulture to create a landscape of life and seasonal color, the turf grass was replaced with low water-use “beneficials” – plants that feed nature.
Delicate Acceptance celebrates our first guest to the garden. This Western Tiger Swallowtail appeared in the garden within 3 months of its completion. In the piece, the infant ‘Tutti Frutti Pink’ Dwarf Butterfly Bush provides a quick resting spot for the wandering traveler. The butterfly is accepting the food from the plant as nature is accepting our improvements to the landscape.”
